What does this mean to you? The Systems Engineer Intern will assist in the development the scope and execution of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), information assurance, cybersecurity analysis and current contracted projects. In time, the Systems Engineering Intern will support the design, development, updates and analysis of UML, SysML, and Unified Profile for MoDAF and DoDAF (UPDM) models of Navy C41 systems, focusing on component interface modeling and systems integration. Activities include requirements gathering and analysis, system architecture development, system design using a MBSE approach and leveraging enterprise architecture modeling tools.

Essential Functions

  • Provides support for executive leadership with customer deliverables, to include, but not limited to white papers, technical writing, status reports, initial software development
  • Completes arranged training program in software development
  • Assists in development of presentations and final reports
  • Performs initial system analysis, including scope definition, problem analysis, requirements gathering and development
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data; summarize findings; develop conclusions
  • Assists in the design and development and maintenance of computer programs that automate specific business processes
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of technical documents based as required by program managers
  • Develops an understanding of acquisition contracting process
  • Develops an understanding of Navy C4I afloat and shore-based system architectures
  • Provides occasional back office support and other tasks as needed
  • All other duties assigned

Required Education/Years of Experience

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in engineering or related field
  • Prefer to have a background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systens Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field either through current enrollment in a degree program or prior work experience

  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices and techniques

  • Academic script development knowledge
  • Academic understanding of a well-written requirement
  • Academic understanding of interface modeling
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications and Project

  • Must be able to take initiative, learn quickly and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Self-starting/motivating
